Ok, let's get started with your name and where you're from?
My name is K.E.L.L.S. and I'm from Oakland, California.
What about your age?
Currently I am 25 years old, my birthday was on December 4th so I'm a fresh 25.
What is the meaning behind K.E.L.L.S.?
K.E.L.L.S. stands for "Killing Every Last Line Soulfully" my last name is Kelly, so that's another nickname but the acronym is K.E.L.L.S. that's my name.
When did you start rapping?
Man, I started really rapping at 17 but when I turned 20 that's when I started taking it serious but 17 is when I originally started.
Do you have any influences?
Actually one of my major influences is like a big brother to me his name is GQ he's an artist from Jamla you should definitely go check him out, that's a major influence. Thinking about old school rappers like Pac and Dr. Dre of course, back in the day, listening to Snoop Dogg, Nas and 50Cent definitely a lot of major influences.
Who are some of the artists that inspire you but aren't classic "hip-hop" artists? Therefore, other genres etc…?
Hmm, I will say this, there's this one song that I like by Justin Nozuka called "After Tonight" I used to play that when I would wake up to start my day off so I like alternative music sometimes. But back in the day pops used to play all the old school stuff like Temptations, Blues, Miles Davis and all old school Michael Jackson, so sometimes when I get passionate or start singing something it's low-key a little Mike in there.
In one word how would you describe your rhyme style?
I would classify my rhyme style as sporadic. I say that because I can flow on top of the beat in different ways, I like switching up the beat a lot so it's sort of sporadic in that sense.
Do you think your home town influences your style if yes, how so?
My hometown definitely influences the style because there's just a mentality that goes with my hometown. Like listening back to all the old Bay cats you get more of a "put you on game" type of vibe, you can even call it a player vibe. I mean my music just doesn't sound exactly like that but at the same time you can hear aspects of it. Like you can understand I'm from East Oakland when I finish up rapping sometimes. So my influences push me heavily.
If you could collaborate with any Bay Area artist who would it be and why?
Would have to be GQ because I feel like he's really one of the next coming up in the Bay Area he's making major moves on the under that people really aren't seeing but that's someone who I would definitely want to collab with. There's another artist name R.O. Tudda, man they're very nice, just more collaborations in the future.
What can we expect from you in the future? Any projects?
Right now the major thing I'm working on is my album, I don't have a straight date for it but I want to say sometime in October we'll see about that though. I'm working on two EP's one of the EP's is a joint project with R.O. Tudda it's called Oakland Unified Cool District, OUCD. After that, I have another EP I want to drop right before the album, right now I have some beats and rhyme schemes so definitely working on that.
In 3 years where do you see yourself?
In 3 years I see myself being on, not on in the sense of what other people may perceive it as, I mean on in that sense that I can actually start providing my family's needs with this money from music. I can start building with stuff I want to do with music, that's more on to me, that's the beginning. In 3 years, I feel like I'll be making major moves and pushes in showing the world who I am.
